In celebration of black history month, I wanted to shine a light on an interesting fact. The Tuskegee Airmen of World War II statue, located on the grounds of the US Airforce Academy, was sculpted by Lt Col Clarence Shivers, who was a Tuskegee Airman and an artist as well! He was an accomplished career Air Force pilot and an artist with tremendous versatility, creating sculptures, still life paintings, and abstract pieces. His works can be seen at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center in an exhibit titled “Clarence Shivers: Experimenting With Form”.
